Congregational UCC Church has announced that the National Park Service has
approved the church building for listing on the National Register of Historic
Places. The plaque marking the church’s
place on the National Register was placed at the outside entrance of the church
and dedicated at the worship service on December 15, 2019.
The church building
was erected in 1913 and dedicated in 1914, replacing an older church that had
served the congregation since 1867 and had been damaged by a windstorm in 1913.
While reviewing the
interior of the building was important, the main emphasis was on the outside of
the building. The guidelines focus on
age and style and whether changes were made that would affect the integrity of
the structure (i.e. changing the size of windows and doors, replacing wood
siding with another type of siding, changing entrances). While there have been minor updates, the
building has basically stayed the same and has been well taken care of for over
